Part 1 of 2. Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of EINHANDER for the Sony Playstation 1 (which means one hander in German). Is this the best game on the PS1? For that matter, is Einhander the best side scrolling shooter SHMUP ever made? As far as shmups go, Einhander is a maniac shooting game set in a 2d horizontal scrolling distopian future with the feel of Blade Runner. It uses 3d elements and pushed the PSX to its limits with incredible graphics, gameplay, sound and replay value. Einhander is a side scroller like Gradius III IV or V, Thunder Force or Life Force. But this game is different because it uses gunpods and the mechanized arm that controls them. It’s amazing and regarded by some as the best shooter ever made. It also has a light saber, homing missiles and a foxy announcer who teached you things in the training seminar. This game should be remade in 2008, 2009 or 2010 as a Playstation 3 PS3 game or something for Xbox Live Arcade. Be sure to watch the original Classic Game Room episodes. The release of the trailer for Modern Warfare 3 has gamers salivating. New York City’s skyline is smoking, tanks tear up the streets of Paris, and buildings topple in Berlin. These kinds of over-the-top combat experiences have guaranteed runaway success in previous versions of the best-selling Call of Duty franchise. Folks will remember Activision’s last noted release, Call of Duty: Black Ops, thanks to its ad campaign featuring celebrities like Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel running around with machine guns and rocket launchers. The new game debuts November 8, 2011—until then, fans will just have to wait for World War III.

Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Return Fire from Silent Software, Inc. and Midway Games for the PlayStation. Return Fire is also available for 3DO and PC. Return Fire is a top-down tank shooter, another step on an evolutionary line that goes back almost 40 years to games like Tank in the arcades and Combat for the Atari 2600. You control military vehicles from a bird’s eye view, firing weapons at angles at enemy vehicles and, in this case, playing what basically amounts to capture the flag. Or capture the escapees in your tank and run them over. You have four vehicles to choose from in Return Fire, each with its own strengths.
